Days are getting longer in Minocqua!

Seems the favorite topic of conversation these past few days has been the weather.  Sure it is winter, but this has been a real cold stretch.  For those like me, it is perfect timing to sit beside a warm fire, sip hot cocoa and read a good book.  Often in by blogs I mention the horses.  They too do not seem too upset about spending more time in the barn than outside when the wind chill takes the temperatures well below the zero mark.

In spite of the blustery cold, our days are getting longer; a couple minutes each day.  With the sun shining it is hard to believe the temperatures are below normal for January.  The other night, when we got the wet snow that really helped our snowmobile trails, I went outside to enjoy a cold winter evening.  Yep, even me who is only a partial winter enthusiast enjoys being outside on a beautiful winter evening in the Northwoods.  When the temperatures dip down to below freezing the ice crystals on the trees glisten like diamonds in the light of the moon and nothing is more beautiful.

The other day I told Holly about Hoar Frost.  She had seen it many times before but never knew it had a name.  When you wake in the morning and all the trees are flocked with crystals it makes for a beautiful sight.  S, for those of you who prefer the indoors on the cold days of winter in the North, do try to take in a morning or evening of winter beauty.  Don the boots, hat, mittens, scarf and warm winter coat and venture outside.  Take in the beauty of all the Northwoods has to offer in winter.  That’s why we are here after all, right? Stay warm and enjoy! ~Diane
